For Immediate Release
Reston, VA – The National Commercial Builders Council (NCBC) of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has announced the winners of the 2008 Awards of Excellence competition. Tetra Partnerships is proud to announce that it has been honored with three 2008 NAHB awards. This was of particular merit, as Tetra garnered three out of a total of only nineteen awards granted nationally this year.
The Awards of Excellence program recognizes achievements in the national commercial building industry for design (remodeling and new construction), market appeal, energy efficiency, challenges faced during building, and overall success of the project. This year’s winners demonstrated inventive use of technology, ingenuity in overcoming design and construction challenges, and innovative use of energy-efficient features. The winning projects will be displayed at the NCBC headquarters during the 2008 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla.
Two Merit Awards were awarded to Tetra projects. One was awarded to University Professional Center (UPC) on the George Washington University Virginia campus in Loudoun County. The building has operable windows and first floor users enjoy the luxury of ground level entrances, floor to ceiling windows and exterior signage. The two-story lobby is considered the heart of the project. The UPC development team included Tetra Partnerships, Dietze Construction Group, Meany & Oliver Companies, Inc. and Noritake Associates Architects.
The other Merit Award was awarded to Fairway Executive Center, in Reston, Virginia. The wedge shape of the building was deliberately intended to maximize golf course views and proximity. To increase the sense of interior openness and decrease view obstructions, considerable glass portions constitute each balcony, windows were installed in large contiguous expanses to allow maximum light penetration and ceilings are more than nine feet high. The UPC development team included Tetra Partnerships, Dietze Construction Group, Meany & Oliver Companies, Inc. and Noritake Associates Architects. The Fairway team includes Tetra Partnerships, Dietze Construction Group and DBI Architects, Inc.
An Honorable Mention was awarded to their Herndon Commerce Center, in Herndon, Va. The final product is a tribute to both the historic district of Herndon and the works of Louis Sullivan. The floor plan makes exceptional use of the limited amount of space, thus making the project more than just an architectural piece of art, but a highly functioning place of commerce drawing business back to the community. The Herndon Commerce Center was also awarded a “Best Buildings” Award for a Mixed-Use Project at the Best of NAIOP Awards, in 2006. The team consisted of Beese Quast, Dietze Construction Group, Tritek Consulting, and Goughnour Engineering PC Development. Property management, sales and marketing was 1by Tetra Partnerships.
