Reston to Kickoff 40th Anniversary Celebration with Founders’ Day

Reston Founder Bob Simon to Also Mark 90th Birthday

Reston, VA – The award-winning community of Reston will celebrate its 40th anniversary by holding its first Founders’ Day. This free, family-oriented will take place from noon to 3:00 pm on April 17 at Lake Anne’s Washington Plaza. Founder’s Day will be the launching point for a yearlong series of events commemorating the anniversary. Community groups from all over Reston, representing a wide range of ages and activities, will be performing that afternoon. In addition, Reston founder Bob Simon will be honored both for his vision and for achieving the milestone of 90 years with a birthday gala later that evening. Proceeds from the ticketed gala will benefit the Reston Historic Trust and Friends of Lake Anne.

“Without a doubt, this is one of the most exciting moments in Reston’s history,” said Chuck Veatch, President of Charles A. Veatch Company, Vice President of the Reston Historic Trust and a Founder’s Day planning leader. “What could be better than to begin a new tradition of a Founder’s Day celebration, with the great fortune to have our founder, Bob Simon, there to help kick things off? We have so many exciting events planned, and perhaps even a surprise or two in store.”
