Reston, VA – Reston Town Center presents R4 Collection Day: Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Reston! on Wednesday, September 17 from 1 pm until 4 pm. In an effort to provide awareness and options for disposal of items that can be diverted from landfill, specific items listed below will be accepted for collection at the Reston Town Center Pavilion, 11900 Market Street, Reston, VA 20190. Reston Town Center is partnering with a number of groups that will be on site to collect used items and supply information on recycling, including: Clean Fairfax; The Bike Lane (bicycle collection); Lions Club of Reston (eyeglasses and hearing aids collection); Office Shredding (document disposal); Turtle Wings (computers and other electronics collection); The Home Depot (compact fluorescent bulb collection); Reston Interfaith (winter coat collection); and REACT (Reston Environmental Action).
“Everyone is talking about ‘going green’,” says Kathy Hannon, General Manager of Reston Town Center. “We decided to ‘walk the walk’ by providing our tenants and patrons with the option to safely dispose of items they need to discard. This is a great opportunity to create awareness of the types of items that can be recycled, and potentially put to good use, rather than put into the trash.”
Only the items listed below will be accepted at the R4 Collection Day. NO hazardous waste items. Items will only be accepted from 1 pm until 4 pm, and must be delivered directly to the appropriate collection booth. The list is also available on www.restontowncenter.com.
R4 collection items include:
- Bicycles ($10 donation requested for repairing bikes for re-use)
- Computers and related equipment (hard drives can be removed on site)
- Compact fluorescent light bulbs
- Documents for shredding
- Electronics* (full list follows)
- Eyeglasses & Hearing Aids
- Winter coats (new, and cleaned gently used)
- *Electronics, collected by Turtle Wings, include: Answering machines, cables, camcorders, CDs, CD players, cell phones, computers, cords, DVDs, DVD Players, electric typewriters, electronic games, fax machines, keyboards/mice, hard drives, ink/toner, laptops, laptop batteries, mainframe equipment, microwave ovens, modems, monitors, networking equipment, pagers, PDAs, printers, printed circuit boards, radios, remote controls, scanners, stereos/components, tapes, tape players, telephones, telecom equipment, televisions, two-way radios, UPS-power supplies, VCRs, word processors.
